Planning one of 683 Million Road Trips
Despite the pandemic, AAA Travel predicts people will hit the road this summer at levels on par to recent years. In fact, we are projecting 683 million road trips from July to September. That’s only a 3% decline from last summer and a 0.4% decline from summer 2018. More so, we’re projecting a total of 707 million trips this summer, including road, air and train based travel.
Paula Twidale, AAA’s senior vice president for travel, has shared that Americans are more likely to book weekend getaways than extended vacations, places they can drive to instead of flying.
“The greatest share of travelers will take to the road to satisfy their wanderlust.” Paula has stated.
For those willing to take to the car, gasoline prices remain lower than last summer’s rates. We’ve also noticed a rebound in hotel and car rental bookings since April.
